Main use cases:
1. Plastics processing
Before injection molding, blow molding, or extrusion, plastic resins like PET, ABS, PA, PC, and PBT need to be dry. Even 0.1% moisture can cause bubbles, splay marks, weak parts, and bad surface finish. The hopper dryer heats and dries the material while it sits in the hopper above the machine.
2. Prevents defects
Wet plastic boils inside the hot barrel, creating bubbles, voids, and weak spots. Drying prevents that.
3. Continuous feeding
It acts as both a dryer and a material hopper, so dried pellets feed directly into the molding/extrusion machine by gravity.
How it works: Hot air is blown through the pellets in the hopper. Moisture evaporates and gets carried away by the exhaust air. Most have temperature and timer controls so you can set the right drying temp and time for each material.
- PET: 140-160°C for 3-4 hours
- ABS: 80-90°C for 2-3 hours
- PA/Nylon: 70-80°C for 4-6 hours
So basically: if you’re molding or extruding plastic, a hopper dryer makes sure your raw material is dry enough for good quality parts.
